Standing with the GE E90 cardiovascular ultrasound are Melissa Svehla, Non-invasive Cardiovascular Services manager; Gary Jones, director, Heart and Vascular Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health; Graham Lee, vice president, Philanthropy; and R. Bruce Helmly, MD, cardiologist and president of the medical staff.

The UM Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced its annual appeal goal of $200,000 for the purchase of a new cardiac ultrasound machine and two other pieces of equipment for the newly established Heart and Vascular Center at UM Shore Regional Health. The GE E90 ultrasound machine is state-of-the-art non-invasive technology that will help physicians examine the heart’s chamber, walls, valves and vessels by using breakthrough software which enhances image quality, gains reproducible results and enhances workflows.

“This machine takes cardiovascular ultrasound to a new level,” says Dr. Bruce Helmley, cardiologist and president, UM SRH Medical Staff. “It will better evaluate narrowed or leaking heart valves, causes of murmurs, chest pain, and shortness of breath. The GE E90 is especially beneficial for patients with diverse body types and complex medical conditions.”

“The community’s support will lead to direct improvement in patient care,” said F. Graham Lee, vice president for philanthropy.

The Foundation already has received a generous gift from the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital at Easton to kick off the annual appeal. “We understand that the new equipment for the Heart and Vascular Center is essential to providing superior patient care,” said Auxiliary President Liz Hannegan. “The Auxiliary is pleased to help make these purchases possible. I’m confident our community will give generously for this cause.”
